The “retail mindset” is a perpetuation of stereotypes and expectations. Customers don't expect a good experience. Managers don't expect to hire great employees. Employees don't look at their jobs as something that will improve their career but rather a way to just get paid. Most view retail as a substandard opportunity. 

The truth is that retail is still the single largest industry and largest contributor to the U.S. economy. There are over *10 million people that work in retail as sales associates, cashiers or food service workers. This translates into a majority of workers experiencing long hours, poor wages, low expectations, little to no accountability, direction or mentoring which results in a depressed career outlook. Keep in mind, these are the same people that interact and communicate with millions of customers each year. This is unacceptable.
